The Department of Animal Control Services enforces the county's animal regulations, including licensing, investigates cruelty cases and picks up stray or injured animals. The Tri-County Animal Shelter houses homeless animals and handles adoptions for Charles, Calvert and St. Mary's counties. The shelter is at 6707 Animal Shelter Rd., Hughesville. Hours to drop off or reclaim an animal are 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays-Fridays and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays. Adoption hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays-Fridays and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays. Closed Sunday.
