Express forecast

  • Tomorrow: Sunny, warm. Highs: 82 to 86.

Forecast in detail

Warm, sunny high pressure continues to dominate our first week of October in contrast to last week’s cool and damp spell. For heat-complainers, lower to mid-80s are nowhere near as hot as the early-September upper 90s. These conditions continue to qualify for “Nice Day” status until a cold front brings clouds and shower chances by Friday, and then much cooler 60s this weekend.

Today (Tuesday): Another nice, sunny day with highs in the lower to mid-80s. Low to moderate humidity is expected with dew points near 60 to the low 60s. Light breezes blow from the northeast at 5 to 10 mph. Confidence: High

Tonight: Mostly clear and comfortable with lows from the mid- to upper 50s in the suburbs to the low 60s in the city, as light winds blow from the southeast at about 5 mph. Confidence: High

A look ahead

Thursday introduces partly cloudy skies with highs closer to 80. Humidity remains in the fairly comfortable low to moderate range. Becoming mostly cloudy Thursday night with lows from the upper 50s to low 60s. Confidence: Medium-High

Friday brings a cold front closer to the area with mostly cloudy skies and shower chances, especially by the afternoon, and possibly a thunderstorm. Highs reach the mid- to upper 70s. More showers are possible Friday night as lows drop into the 50s to near 60 under mostly cloudy skies. Confidence: Medium

The weekend may start with lingering clouds on Saturday and a continued chance of showers if the front slows down. A cooler air mass limits Saturday highs to the mid-60s to around 70, followed by Saturday night lows ranging from the rather crisp 40s in the cooler suburbs to the low 50s in the city. Sunday brings back partly sunny skies as highs only reach the lower to mid-60s (normal highs are closer to 70). Confidence: Low-Medium
